Merge Creative Agency LTD
Mahuki, based in Te Papa, is a 4-month accelerator program for startup businesses and focuses more on the culture and heritage sector, mainly Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums. They help businesses in expanding their company by introducing them to potential mentors and fellow entrepreneurs, providing them needs and access to the cultural sector in New Zealand and abroad.
My time at Mahuki has been an amazing and eye opening experience. From being just a design student to a co-founder of my own company, along with two of my class mates. During our time there, we had the chance to meet with many successful people and entrepreneurs and got to listen to their stories as well as learn and develop our own skills in managing a business.
With my teammates Mel Wilson and Avishka Ahire, we came up with the company “Merge Creative Agency” whose goal was to bring in people aged 18 – 25 into Museums and Libraries using AR (Augmented Reality) technology. This project first started out as an assignment we had with the Otago Museum, where we observed people within the museum space and found how not many people from our age group seem to come visit the space. So we came up with the idea of creating a game app that uses the objects within the museum to create and tell stories of these collections that couldn’t be expressed from a small plaque.
Since coming into Mahuki, we have expanded our idea into what is now “Decipher”. A game of about secret agents, puzzle solving and a mission that could save humanity.
